# Codex

> Add Stophy to OpenAI Codex as a remote MCP server so your agent can search the web and pull live data from 161 endpoints across 41 sources.

## Prerequisites

* [Codex](https://developers.openai.com/codex)
* A Stophy API key in `STOPHY_API_KEY`. [Get one](https://stophy.dev/signup).

No key yet? Start [without one](/mcp-server/keyless) or [sign in with your browser](/mcp-server/oauth).

## Add Stophy

```bash theme={null}
codex mcp add stophy --url https://api.stophy.dev/mcp --bearer-token-env-var STOPHY_API_KEY
```

This writes the following to `~/.codex/config.toml`. Codex reads the key from `STOPHY_API_KEY` each time it starts, so the key is never saved to the file.

[mcp_servers.stophy]
url = "https://api.stophy.dev/mcp"
bearer_token_env_var = "STOPHY_API_KEY"
```

To also get one tool per endpoint for some sources, use `https://api.stophy.dev/mcp?toolsets=reddit,youtube` as the URL.

## Check it

Run `codex mcp list`, or type `/mcp` in Codex. Then try:

Use Stophy to get the transcript of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ and summarize it.
